New Year, New Airline. After 29 years of doing business with United, my family and I start Flying Alaska to Hawaii.
We also fly Alaska to Alaska.
Baby CJ turns 1 and makes his first trip to India where we visit Agra, The Taj Mahal, Humayan’s Tomb, and a local McDonald’s.
On the way there, we fly Singapore to Singapore and abuse the crap out of United’s stopover rules to sneak in trips to Bali and Hong Kong.
California Love: Heavenly Lake Tahoe. Yosemite. San Diego.
The drama continues with United, but I ultimately decide to stick around and make Million Miler (on their dime…well, maybe Chase’s dime).
I go back to Alaska where I do some plane spotting.
I have so much fun, I take the whole family next time for 3 perfect Days in Alaska.
During the rest of the summer I stay closer to home and paddle around Lake Tahoe: Race the Lake of the Sky and Ta-hoe Nalu. I also visit Folsom Prison.
The Island of Kauai and Duke’s Oceanfest on Oahu get crossed off the Bucket List.
Then we get friendly with some Wyoming wildlife.
Mileage Running season beings: 12 Weeks, 72180 Miles, and United 1K Status. Life hands me lemons and I go back to Hong Kong.
United is Once Again the Friendly Skies, then Jeff Smisek punks us all.
12 weeks and 75,427 miles later I finally make 1K
A week after that, The Family That Mileage Runs Together Stays Together. Yay! We’re now Alaska Airlines MVPs.
We celebrate and end the year with 3 Perfect Days in Lahaina.
Miles Flown: 147,725
Statuses Earned: United Premier 1K, Alaska Airlines MVP, Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles Gold Elite
2014: To be continued…Maui no ka oi
